As they move their feets, the beating sound of the drums and chants rise like incense to fill the room.

The battle of wits has begun as they move ever so gracefully in search for convergence in a joyful ebb and flow of motion.

Capoeira is a Brazilian martial art that combines the elements of dance, music and game. As a dance, it is elegant yet powerful. Together with its impressive moves, it's one martial art that will truly impress your friends.

Brief Intro

Capoeira stems from the slavery in Brazil since the 16th century. At that time, slaves that came mainly from West and Central Africa were brought over by the Portugese colonial powers as substitute for workers. Leading a harsh life, with overwhelming power of the colonial law and a lack of weapons contributed to the development of capoeira, a fighting style, hidden within a dance, allowing the hope of being able to go up against colonial agents in charge of finding escapees, to rise from within the slaves.

Cyclical in all sense, the process of learning backflips and various kicks builds up strength and agility. With this new found dexterity, one would be able to proceed to learn moves of greater difficulty.

Capoeira, like all other dances, is inherently a cardio exercise. Since capoeira requires a substantial training time, one can expect improvement in stamina.

More, only to entice

Capoeira as a game incorporates dance and music, which makes it essential for one to understand the music, how to play the different instrument, sing an chant in Portuguese. As such, just by simply learning capoeira, you get to know more about the culture of Brazil!
